Shovel Ready: The Economic Stimulus Shovel (tm)

Driving around through the economic recession in February this year, listening to NPR, President Obama kept talking about the Economic Stimulus Package, the ARRA (Americn Reinvestment and Recovery Act, Shovel Ready projects, and 6 million american jobs.

But what does it look like I wondered? I mean, concepts as words don't make much sense to me. I need an image, an object, something that I can see and touch, something I'm used to. I need something to connect these big ideas and concepts to my everyday life. I need it to make sense to me.

So immediately as I'm thinking about The Stimulus Package, what it is, what it means, the emergency economic situation we're in as a nation (and globally too!) an image pops into my head.

I imagine people without jobs, without hope, scared, paying off a mortgage or defaulting on their home loan, but then The Economic Stimulus Shovel arrives in town-- go, break gorund-- build a playground, grow a garden, the future is in our hands!
